To put it bluntly, she's a terrible runner. So, no.

That might not be a deal breaker for Air Force or Space Force.

She has a 1420 PSAT, 3.9 uw, 4.4 w. Looking for engineering. Mechanical? But she and we don't even have a clue where to start looking beyond the academies and major engineering colleges that she would have settled for for NROTC but isn't a fan of on their own. Cost isn't a huge issue since she has my GI Bill.

Where do we even start?

Same thing happened to our DC. Look at Purdue and she can do ROTC there.

The military is not an option.

Give us more about what she's looking for. School size? Area of the country? What is she looking for in a school?

That's our issue - she doesn't know. I suppose something smaller to match what she was aiming for prior? She's not interested in huge flagships. Area of the country is open, but eastern half is best. Near a major airport is good for us. I suspect she's more interested a place that's more socially but not necessarily conservative (sedate might be a better word).

Then she needs to learn and work on it. There is no such thing as a terrible runner, just someone who is out of shape and has never been shown how and trained.

This. Can you hire a coach to work with her? She's only a sophomore, has time.

We have, with little improvement.

Does she really need to be good/fast? If she's slow but has endurance, isn't that sufficient? What did her coach say? I always thought running was the one thing anyone could improve at, with effort and persistence.

She is not out of shape. She's a good athlete with multiple state appearances in another sport, but even after private lessons and coaching, her running is just not good. We've worked on this for years thinking we had time, but she's decided it's not something she wants to pursue any longer. We're just trying to settle the college issue now.

If she can’t pass the PFT, she can’t do those either.

OP, why can’t she pass it?
