Expect rejections. Meet with/your school counselor in list.
Proactively notify AO about grade

No f-king way. This poster is trying to sabotage your kid OP just ignore them.

If your kid is getting a C in the first semester but expects to do better in the full year (year-end) - which is what the OP is saying, most counselors will tell you to wait for EA/ED apps to come in (those don't need first-semester grades). Then bc the first semester grades will auto be sent to your RD schools, give an update in the portal proactively FOR THOSE RD schools ONLY.

My kid had a health issue in the first semester, had a C+ first semester in Calc (all As in other classes) and had to have a medical procedure (under anesthesia) with an inpatient in early Jan last year after RD apps were due. School's CCO told DC to write an update about grade (mid to late Jan), and health issues (along with medical resolution). By the end of the year full-year grade was a B (A- in the 2nd semester).

DC was admitted to deferred ED1 (T20) along with a T10 and WL at several other T20. Don't hide from the grade for your RD schools bc they will see a C in the first semester. You need to explain it.

D as a final grade is a no, but if you've got tutoring in play and expect it to go up to a low B it sounds like you're definitely on the way to solving the problem

A single B is not going to make any difference whatsoever, especially given the colleges applied to have not asked her for 1st Quarter grades.

Good luck I hope the applications come back with lots of exciting offers.

Maybe it's for Restricted EA (REA) since OP said it's not ED? In that case, I think it could be HYPS who only do REA and why OP's kid is so worried.

Last year, my previous straight-A kid had a B for q1 grade in a core subject. High school submitted q1 grades to all ed/ea schools. Still got accepted ed1. Good luck to everyone!!!

EA results are out or coming out shortly. My kid doesn't get first semester grades until January. Do you have any clue? And one B+ shouldn't matter much anyway.

You. Must. Chill. Now.

If EA comes out before 1st semester ends, then no big deal. They’ll see a B+ but that’s hardly a reason to rescind.
If EA comes out after 1st semester grades sent, likely still does not matter. That’s a strong grade in a hard class.
Good luck to her.

thank you. she's been concerned about it!

They were likely completed in early November before semester grades came out.

Until this semester, DD had an upward trajectory with junior year being the highest GPA despite more rigor. This term one subject is possibly going to be a B+ (science). DD is not majoring in STEM, but it still stops the upward trajectory. Last year was all As with some A-s.

Is this a big deal? Does she need to consider revising her college list? She is only doing EA/RD and no ED.

Will her EAs see her 1st semester grades?
