We usually do smaller things because we do a long weekend away as our gift to each other.

This year:
13 year old DS picked out an F1 Lego set for he and DH to do together
A larger Dutch oven because he's been complaining ours is too small
A framed poster of something related to his hobby for his office

His stocking is mostly misc food, kitchen, and shower stuff. Though I also for him these fingerless gloves with LED lights on them because he fixes things around the house and now he doesn't need a flashlight.

I want some socks and duplicates of kitchen stuff I like

My spouse wants stuff for his telescope, noise canceling headphones for travel (his wore out) and Legos to build with our oldest.

I have done that. It only makes me feel bad.

Here's my answer. Things you need. Need new tongs? buy new tongs, wrap them, give them to him. Does he need a new hamper? Buy one and wrap it and give it to him. Is his shower curtain gross? Buy a new one, wrap it up, give it to him. Don't buy the expensive stuff just because it is christmas. buy the stuff you'd normally buy. Laundry soap from target. bathmat. new shampoo bar. whatever. Buy the beer or wine or whiskey that he drinks and put it in his stocking.

Unless, of course, if he actually gives you an idea of something interesting to buy. then go with that/

That's such a loaded question because every man is different. However, I told my wife I didn't want ANYTHING this year because we do have a trip planned just after Christmas and I just want to enjoy that. If your DH says something similar respect that's how he feels. Otherwise, if you have to get something I bet he'd enjoy a lot of the same stuff as your sons.

What do men want for Christmas (Assuming you already have a decent intimate life and you need something to put under the tree)?

I am literally looking at getting DH the same gifts I am getting our teenage sons.
