My dd had a huge friend shift in 9th grade. She was unhappy and anxious much of the year. She’s a senior now and doing great. Ups and downs are normal. Hope it smooths out for her soon!

Things did get better for my sons with time but I can’t tell you they ever loved their HS. Their best friends remained the ones from MS who went to the other school. The years go quick and they all drive soon enough.

We are encouraging DD to join clubs.

Some never do, MY DD is a senior going to a good college, but never liked high school enjoyed middle school 8th grade. and most of 6th grade, but same issue. It did go by quickly for her, but never enjoyed it.

It takes a while to get used to 9th grade in a whole new environment. It helps to know that this is quite common and the kids who are in sports teams etc are probably bonding more quickly (also theater groups etc) if any EC's appeal to her, that might help.

There is zero point stressing about college when you're in 9th grade. If she is somewhere like TJ or Whitman that is the culture, but otherwise that is going to be down to you. Can you help take the pressure off?

Are anybody else's kids struggling in high school right now?

My dd is a freshman in high school and she really misses her old friend group (mostly got split up between different high school) and her teachers, the building she knew and just overall middle school.

She has made new friends but still wishes she could go back to middle school and she thinks nothing will ever get better. She is also super stressed about college.
