I think having posters from different areas is a feature, not a bug. Not only do they boost the numbers, enlivening discussions, but their location may allow them to contribute additional information from a different perspective.

Are you the person who keeps posting about interlopers? I've been on here for 2 years (after decades away) and in the last two months it seems like there's one person in particular who is upset and keeps using that word.

The regional forums are very slow. NYC barely active. Chicago and LA in the a few posts a year category. People don't want to use those subforums very often. Many people browse based on Recent Topics because they want to be part of active discussions, not post something and come back weeks later.

For example, I had better luck posting a question in the generic Real Estate section than the California section (with an appropriate geographic header). I've learned more than a few things about California school admissions from DCUM and something helpful about real estate from this site. There are both current Californians, former Californians, and DMV people seeking to send their kids OOS to California schools here. I don't have trouble distinguishing between these groups when necessary.

The bothered person seems to be concerned about college admissions. The most accurate advice there comes from high school data that you will get outside DCUM. The rest is just loose context and none of it is completely sourced anyway. Very few people seem to share OP's concerns about not being able to figure out who is talking.

It’d be helpful if people provided some details for context - location, age, etc. - when relevant.

Like the person yesterday who posted about parents preemptively opening their kid’s college acceptance letters. Ummmmm…

I just assume most posters are clueless or full of sht unless they prove otherwise.

I moved away from NoVa years ago. I enjoy the discussions on here so I still read and comment.
I’m not going to comment on local sports clubs or schools or real estate (unless it’s the massive addition in Fairfax lol). But parenting advice, family relationships, recipes, health concerns, national politics, etc. are not unique to DC area.

we're not here for the regional forums, we're here for the anon discussion that applies that often applies nationally

From a user perspective, I don’t have a hard time keeping up with other parenting opinions outside of DMV. It doesn’t make me mad.

Also, more users are better for Jeff/DCUM. It allows the site paying the bills via ads so we can use it for FREE.

This is how the internet works.

I'm not sure what to say. I can't really implement passport control on an anonymous website. I know this upsets some posters, but personally I am not sure why it is a big deal. If their response is unhelpful, just ignore it. At least they bumped the thread and provided exposure that might attract a more helpful response.
