For some it's FARMS rate and propety values. For some, it's not even FARMS rate because Churchill and Wootton have low FARMS rate and equally good schools. It's just snobbish attitude.

Churchill thinks the white people are superior to Asians. Asians think higher FARMS = kids that disrupt their kids' learning environment

Well, my child at G-burg succeeded in the classroom (got As) but learned very little. She needed to retake Algebra at MC (for no credit) even though she got an A in precalc at G-burg. I was not happy at all with her education at G-burg, mostly because "the teachers spent more time yelling at those who interrupt, than on teaching" (my child's words when I questioned how she got A's but didn't learn anything).

my kids have long since graduated, but my answer would be atmosphere (although I only know the atmosphere at G-burg)

I had one kid at Poolesville (magnet), the other at G-burg (home school) and it was like night and day walking those schools at lunch time. At Poolesville the kids sit in the halls doing homework together or idly chit-chatting. At G-burg it was all out chaos, kids running, yelling and throwing balls in the hallways.

I am being sarcastic that I don't think the kids are that different. The parents, on the other hand, have their own thoughts such as house values, but only claim to think for the benefits of their children.

I totally agree that kids need friends. But here is a question: how many of those families would refuse a better job offer, say higher salary, more growth opportunity, better weather, etc. that requires relocation to a new place with similarly reputable schools?

Assuming this is a genuine question and not just an attempt to cause more drama, it’s not about not wanting to be with the other schools/kids. It’s about wanting to stay with long established friends and communities.


Very few families will come out and openly say it's about FARMs rate, house values etc. It's far better to say friends and communities.

There would be a positive benefit in the scenarios you mention. What’s the upside to pulling a single school out of a well established community like they are attempting to do to the Wootton and Churchill clusters? And now maybe a QO school too? These kids have friends, they play sports with them, they ride their bikes to the surrounding neighborhoods. Maybe the parents are also worried about property value. I don’t think it’s about feeling superior. Why would you expect them to be happy when there is no benefit and only a downside?

I'm curious how property values will be affected because of regional magnets? Property values is based on the high school itself not the regional magnets. They should put Wootton in Region 5 and let Wootton keep the STEM magnet and have Gaithersburg host the Humanities magnet.

Could definitely be a factor for some, that’s true. The kids don’t care about that though. They want to stay with their friends.
