This is exactly what I thought of, too. Was in NYC for that blackout and there was a palpable sense of disappointment when the power came back on. Life without the constant buzz of electricity and connectivity is kind of nice, at least for a little while.

I’d welcome it, just to catch up on other things and enjoy the peace. But it would be chaos for medical systems and put people in danger.

I experienced this during the 2003 East Coast grid blackout and it was amazing. Almost 48 hours of actual human living!

Yes, there have been studies of the mental health/relationship benefits.

But too many businesses /societal functions are internet-dependent.

We already have proof of rage bait, algorithms, corrupt news stations and more. Obviously, this cannot be done, but if nobody had access to the internet for a full week do you think anything would get better in that short time?
