Northwestern University costs are in line with other elite private US universities and NU offers generous, no-loan, 10% meets need financial aid.

Location offers easy access to either coast & to any major city in the USA.

Evanston, Illinois is an upscale suburb of Chicago. Gorgeous lakefront (Lake Michigan) setting.

Location gives access to employers on the East Coast, the West Coast, Chicago, Wash Dc,and all other major cities in the country.

Higher ranked than half of the Ivy League schools. Was sought after by the Ivy League in 1980 but curtailed discussions due to travel distances for athletic events. Travels long distances for Big Ten Conference athletics which generates substantial revenue the likes of which has never been seen in the Ivy League.

How the above poster lists Northwestern University as "not STEM" is just a clear indication of that poster's lack of knowledge about Northwestern University.

I agree that Northwestern has had a strong reputation for 30+ years. But where I happen to live, kids are much more focused on big flagships (Michigan, Indiana and others).

Reading this board for 2 years now, I would say that Northwestern is talked about a lot, especially in lists, but not "debated".

Kids tend to go to college and get jobs within a radius of home. I feel that Northwestern and Wisconsin are largely outside that comfortable radius for DMV and Northwestern has low admit chances for RD. The University of Chicago has a little more draw because it has been "elite" for longer than Northwestern in rankings and reputation. But Chicago draws a lot of flak for its cynical admissions practices.

TL;DR, I think the lower interest is geographic. Penn, Brown, or any decent flagship can provide the same curriculum.

It's extremely popular in this area. Your "feelings" about how much it is talked about do not correlate with level of interest here.

My family has no connection to Chicago and it’s not clear what would attract my kids there that isn’t better somewhere else. So it’s hard to send my kid there.

For people with midwestern connections I am sure it is a marquee destination.

I feel like Northwestern doesn’t get talked about as much as other top 20 schools on DCUM. It’s one of DC’s top choices so just curious why it doesn’t seem as popular in our area.
