It's incredibly hard to get men of that generation to give up the keys, even if one of their passengers is a much more capable driver. I'm sure the wife, son, and/or DIL in the scenario above included at least one capable driver.

Driverless cars will require a lot of maintenance for the censors along with a person monitoring as it drives. It might give them a few more years of independence, but beyond that they won't be able to handle it.

At this point doesn’t everyone have some sort of location tracking on their car or cell phone? I would drop an air tag in my parents car, if nothing else.

This is unfortunate but I disagree. If the actuarial numbers indicated old folks posed more of a driving hazard than other populations, their insurance rates would be higher and they are not.

Old people in their 80s left Thanksgiving to drive an hour and a half I think. They got turned around and were found dead. Dementia. Old people should not be driving.

So many surprised comments. But that’s a long drive for elderly couples. Something tells me signs were ignored
