I also have a stressful job. I have a 40 min drive home (thankfully a very nice and easy drive). I have various playlists that allow me to decompress.

DH works from home and when he signs off he takes the dog for a 15 min drive around town or to go pick up take out. He listens to an audio book and decompresses.

A great playlist always helps and then taking our dog for a long walk with DH. We have young kids who keep us busy but honestly, I love the distraction and not having to talk about work. DH is a corporate attorney and I'm a cop so when we're home, I'd much rather not discuss the craziness of our jobs and just put on my mom/wife hat.

When I make the transition from work ➡️ home, I primarily enjoy browsing the internet on my phone, primarily social media ➕ YouTube. (Oh and of course DCUM!!)

I also like to change into loose-fitting, comfortable clothing (PJs too) and have a snack.

Taking a relaxing bath or a walk are also good suggestions.

Shower, change out of work clothes, play fun music. Agree that it’s best if you can get in even a 15 min walk to clear your head first

I make dinner and listen to show tunes while I do it. Computer stays in the office and I don't go up there until the next day.

I’ve been working on this. The fastest switch comes with one of the below:

Listen to an entertaining podcast/audiobook. This isn’t the time for NPR.

Dance to 90s club music or at least just crank it. Better off alone- Alice DJ

Change your clothes, have that drink and cook and clean your kitchen while you have it. Maybe tackle a little something domestic every single day whether it's chopping vegetables or inventorying your spice or meal planning or baking some muffins or cleaning all your wood/stainless/counters. I love domestic tasks and music to take my mind off work.

For me it is a long dog walk to get some air and clear my head before dinner.

I walk home from work and this is the best part. Exercise is a high bar, but can you walk around the block?

Blast loud music of your choice. Angry or peppy and do a mini dance party

This happens for me on the horrific and long drive down 395/95.

I literally move my Dell work laptop a foot and a half to the left and pull my Macbook forward. On the days I'm feeling ambitious I go for a walk and listen to music.

Hot shower and change from "work clothes" to comfy home clothes?

I have a stressful job, but once I close my computer, usually around 6pm, I don't have to be "on" until the next morning. So that's nice. But I have a hard time turning off. I leave work tense and prickly, whether it be my office downtown or my office upstairs, and I almost always have a drink (or two) to transition to my home self, who is way more relaxed and fun.

Obviously this isn't great. I'm looking for ways to make that work-to-home switch. There is no chance in hell I'm going to exercise in this mindset. Just not going to. What else you got?
