It not unusual for local clubs to mostly boycott each other's tournaments. This goes for outdoor soccer as well. Sometimes it is done simply to have a team enter just 1 or 2 tournaments per year vs lots of tournaments and the line has to be drawn somewhere. And sometimes, (what you might be getting at), is that rival clubs (fighting over the same customer base) avoid going head-to-head across multiple age-groups so that they both avoid figuring out who the better club is; which could effect the bottom line when folks conclude Club A sucks as they just lost most of their games to Club B in the last tournament. -Thoughts like this can cause players to leave clubs, therefore & sometimes clubs don't enter local 'club neighbor' tournaments.
Last year, STJFC did participate along with False8, In10sity, Arlington VRSC, & Bethesda. Objectively speaking, if STJFC did not enter this year, it's because they deemed this highly competitive event and will just enter another tournament instead. With the exodus in talent they had last summer and the rise of other local programs and competition in the Springfield Area, they are likely not as competitive and decided it makes no sense to sign up for this event.
