My experience with divorce attorneys was that they were good at the drama part but not great at the nuts and bolts of financial planning. They provided templates for court —and many had errors in it.

I had to do all of the spreadsheets and calculations myself. I am glad I did since it helped me with negotiations. The legal team did very little about helping my financial future —they were probably a distraction.

OP here - complicated situation and one that my attorney can’t seem to navigate - thanks for the one recommendation.

Whomever parents set up the trusts would have protected them more than whatsoever OP has alluded to happening. Unless the trustee was also an idiot.

That said if this is a newer joint trust situation figure out or spreader property or community property or two separate individual trusts and everything should be clearer.

Or call an estate attorney yesterday. And your tax attorney.

That’s weird OP. Most lawyers would know basic estate planning and all types of SES have trusts instead of wills, not just HNWs.

You are not entitled to their trust.

You have the trust or your spouse?

Or you are each others trustees and getting yanked?

What’s the actual issue? Most family law lawyers know estate docs and laws.

If you visit the firm’s websites, there are client testimonials available. Real customers. They could be helpful to you.
