"White cats, especially those with blue eyes, are most likely to be born deaf due to a specific dominant gene (W) that affects both pigmentation and inner ear development. The gene that causes a cat's coat to be entirely white and its eyes blue can also cause the auditory apparatus in the inner ear to degenerate. "

We had a petite "creamsicle" girl kitty who was the sweetest cat. We miss you. Flower! (No health issues. Not sure where that PP got their deaf/blind info. Doesnt seem to be anything online showing a connection. )

We had a make creamsicle who was super healthy (lived to 19). He was a big boy.

Orange cat energy is the best. All the ones I have known are male and chill. Good luck OP

Only about 2/3rds of ginger cats are male. Plenty are female and both genders can have white as well. No ill effects. The vast majority of calico cats are female. I have seen a male calico (they do exist), but they are sterile.

Everything I said is 100% true.

I just flipped through a couple local shelters and they all have adult orange cats.

If you want a kitten you might be better off waiting until late spring or summer as that's when shelters are up to their eyeballs in kittens.

My advice is to pick a cat off temperament. My cuddliest cat is my tortie, despite the rep they get. My old orange boy was more a sit next to you cat, not a cuddle cat. Color stereotypes don't guarantee behavior.

So glad I'm allergic to cats. Otherwise I'd be the Cat Lady.
