^ I forgot to mention we have somewhat luxury cars so my theory is that people swipe, figure “Eh THEY can afford it” or “Well THAT guy is probably an because he drives a Mercedes SUV” and leave without a note.”

Over the last 3 weeks, DH and I have both come back to our parked cars and found we’d been sideswiped. Neither of us were parked badly, and in fact a lot of times I pick an emptier row further from the store/doctor/whatever to avoid other cars. No notes.

One, she didn't FORGET. She intentionally did not leave one. GET REAL.

Two, according to you, I can go rob a store right now but should not face consequences because it's not as bad as murder????? Damaging someone's car and not paying for the damages IS theft. Someone has to pay for that. If you are so frazzled that you "forget" to leave a note after damaging someone else's property, you should not be driving. Period. No cop would buy or care about that storyline.

I once had a fender bender in a parking lot as a teenager. I called my parents in a panic. "Can you see any damage?" No. "Then just come home." So I did.

OP here. I did the same thing a few years ago. The person called me back and said they didn't notice anything. Of course it's stressful, but if you don't do the right thing in times of stress, that's a bad indicator of character.

The fact that that the woman literally SAW the victim get in her car and then drove off, is awful. You can't blame that on not having pen/paper.

Maybe they had a private beef, and the other woman had an affair with her husband or something.

I left a note when I really scraped up a Car To Go and apologized profusely because I knew it would be a hassle for the renter. Never got a call.

I witnessed a woman hit another woman's car, as she was pulling out of the lot of our gym. She stopped elsewhere in the lot to look at her own car. Meanwhile, the woman whose car was hit was leaving not long after. The offender SAW her, and didn't say anything.

I was also about to leave, and followed the offender's car through the lot to get a picture of her license plate in case she never returns to the gym.

Of course, I'll share it with the victim, who I'll probably see in passing within the next week.

Accidents happen, bad days happen, but not doing the right thing is straight up shitty human behavior.

The woman was probably a mom - in case you're on this site... you're a bad human. And probably a terrible example to your kids.
