What are her health needs?

Another option is daycare facilities. My relatives' state has daycare facilities where a bus comes and picks them up, they get food and activities, and then they return home. Or have home healthcare workers come to her depending on her needs.

Virginia has the Auxiliary Grant. This can be used at participating assisted living facilities.

You need to speak to the social worker at the facility you are interested in. My neighbor went in to assisted living, private room, and transferred to a semi-private room when her Medicare ran out. She’d also spent down her money. She stayed in the same place. We took her meals, treats, drinks, snacks and a television for her room. She did fine. A good social worker can help.

OP didn’t ask for Medicaid to cover AL. OP asked if people were aware of places where a full-pay resident can transition to Medicaid.

It depends on the state. MD does not pay for assisted living, only nursing homes.

What states pay for assisted living?

There are a handful of really good assisted living places in Connecticut that can take Title 19 (CT’s Medicaid) dollars. It makes my mother’s life so good for the few years before she died. Every state should do it.

Maybe there’s one for her state too? You can even be the paid caregiver or you can hire someone

DC has this program for Medicaid patients. Though sounds like your parent isn’t on Medicaid yet at the moment, OP?

I'm seeking to help an aging relative with limited income and savings. She worked hard her whole life but low income background. Now 80, she now has health needs that require care and I'm trying to assist as she has no children. She has enough to cover maybe a year of assisted living; once she runs out of funds she will need to transition to medicaid. How can we identify a facility in the DMV that is familiar with this circumstance? I know that this area is full of people with a lot more resources, but wanted to see if anyone could flag a facility or services to help.
