This post is too vague. What do you "love" about the vineyard? The vineyard is sizable and there's a big difference between preppy Edgartown versus Boho Vineyard haven versus quiet and serene Chilmark...

The Hamptons also boast scenic beauty with various vibes but some areas (East Hampton, Bridgehampton)might feel obnoxious and less approachable and other areas (Sag Harbor, North fork, Westhampton) are lovely and easy to navigate and love.

I disagree about Martha’s Vineyard being snotty and rich. Of course there are a lot of rich people in certain areas but two thirds of vacationers are regular families. Martha’s Vineyard is more contained. I think it’s 20 miles from end to the other. You have beaches with different qualities, some with high waves some calm. The towns all have their own vibe.

But don’t confuse Martha’s Vineyard with an island for the super rich only. It’s for everybody. As for,Nantucket, that island is just plain boring.

Consider Quogue if you want a Hamptons experience that's on the quieter side. It's really close to the ocean beaches and has the historic charm of the other east end towns without the nonsense. Some would argue that it's not "the real Hamptons," but it's right there at the gateway, a couple of miles from Southampton, and you would would have fairly easy access to visit the North Fork.

One is coke and champagne. The other is weed and fine Bordeaux.

Take you pick. Snotty, rich New England. Snotty rich East side Manhattan.

Op again. What do you like about the Hamptons? Are they at all similar? I’ve been going to MV for decades. I’ve been to Nantucket, Mystic, Bar Harbor, Newport, Kennebunkport, Portland, Portsmouth, Rye, and a few other coastal towns. I’ve also been to Vermont a few times over the years.

It's true. It is nowhere as bad as the Hamptons, but those people have discovered the Vineyard.

We have a house in Southampton. It's really crowded there in the summer, and the traffic is terrible. Plus parking restrictions can make beach access a little difficult.

I would imagine that the Vineyard is a lot more laid back, and if I were just visiting for a weekend or week, then I would probably go there over the Hamptons.
