I use a waterproof waist pouch but because I am paranoid I also put my phone into a zip lock bag inside that.

It’s one reason why the excursions in which you buy access to a beach club are popular — theft is less likely. If going to a public beach you should also bring a $20 because they rent chairs and you really need to rent one if you want to leave stuff on the beach. If you leave your bag with towel just on the beach next to a chair you aren’t renting, the rental people may toss it. They want you to rent the chairs. Small bills in U.S. dollars will likely be better on beaches than a credit card and you can buy drinks and ice cream that way.

Which ports are you going to? A lot of them don’t really have beaches you can just walk to.

I leave towel and shoes on the beach.

I normally take a waterproof pouch that fits my phone and a credit card, goes around the neck and it floats, BUT warning - even the best ones can leak. This happened to my husband last year. That was the end of his phone, at the very start of our trip. Very stressful. So if you use one, maybe buy a few so you have backups and be sure to check them before you go (eg, submerge in the sink), plus check occasionally while you're there and using them. If you do a water park, you can't have them around your neck - need the fanny pack.

Yes- when we were on our cruise I saw many, many people with these around their necks during beach time/excursions/etc.

If you're a single parent, you want to have eyes on the child, not your stuff on the beach. And if your credit card etc were to be stolen, it's a bigger deal because there isn't another adult around and you have a dependent.

I use the KYSS bag (medium size) and lock it on a chair or lounger. I've used it at several ports in the Caribbean over the years and have never had any issues.

First time cruiser here, single mom with an 8 year old, trying to sort out how to manage valuables while at the beach on an upcoming cruise.

I'll leave the passports and my wallet in our room safe, and plan to bring a small beach bag with towels, goggles, water, and snacks. I also need to bring my cell phone (for safety and to take photos), a credit card, our cruise lanyards/room cards, and photocopies of our passports off the ship. Not worried about the beach bag going missing but obviously need a plan for valuables. Tried to research whether the port beaches we'll be visiting have lockers but that remains unclear so looking for an alternative.

I've seen both waterproof pouches or fanny packs people wear into the water and bags you lock around beach chairs. Both seem to have pros and cons. What have others done when not in the position to have someone stay with your stuff while the other is in the water?
