All kids will typically do the midweek meets against other schools (2-3 schools at a meet). The top kids have invitational meets on Saturdays and some evenings, plus county, regional and state meets. There were some invitationals outside the County, even out of state.
My DC was one of the competitive kids and it was a big time commitment and a long season - the State meet for spring track was typically Memorial Day weekend.
That is true for XC and outdoor track, but not indoor. There aren’t enough indoor facilities in the region for dual-team meets.

Oh interesting--since there's no JV--is track and field a sport where only some can join or is it a no-cut sport ?
