So, quince orchard HS is considered the best in region 5? I don't think the statistic data for quince orchard is that great.

There is NOTHING good about GHS. We are in laytonsville and ppl send their kids to privates (mostly GC in Olney).

My child goes there and we love it. She has great friends and has enjoyed all of her teachers. I will admit that it really requires your student to be fairly self motivated and find a strong pocket in the school for success, but realistically thats every high school.

Kids from GHS are fully capable of having all the success that other schools have. They just have to want it.

My only complaint through 2 years has been with counseling.

From what I have heard, the staff is very dedicated. Though a staff member told me that she sees the differences in the amount of clubs, and PTA funding/events compared to her own child's high school. My child is slated to go there in about 5 years. Our neighbors have said good things (the ones who have sent their kids, quite a few go private). I think the good kids stay out of trouble and do well. If your child is a high flyer, there is probably less competition.

IF OP cares about her child being set up for success for selective colleges or universities, your anecdote isn't that encouraging.

I never said that Towson is a hard school to get into. I was just saying that my nephew went to GHS, wasn’t super into school, and still had a decent outcome. There’s nothing wrong with going to Towson. He had some friends at GHS who were academically driven. Three of his friends went to Johns Hopkins, The University of Chicago, and MIT. It’s possible to do it from GHS.

I used to work there not that long ago. Not very impressed with most of the Admin. Also didn’t really care for the culture of the school.

Would be easier if you just said what your non-negotiables are we can tell you if Gaithersburg HS violates any of them.

What the title says - If your kid goes to or went to that school, tell me more about the school - what is good, what is bad.
