DCUM never disappoints. There’s one thread with a parent asking for Christmas gift ideas for their high school senior to help prepare for college. And here on this thread is a parent who is just realizing on November 30 that their kid goes to college in New England and has no boots.

My kid has a pair of LL Bean boots for when it’s slushy/actively snowing. Otherwise wears Docs.

I love my Blundstones so agree with that rec, as well.

Nobody would wear boots with spikes to go to class, that would be ridiculous.

True fact! There were no Uggs when I was in school but sneakers and doc Martens. Pathways were always well plowed/shoveled on campus.

I think its worse for city students who live off campus in Boston. People don't shovel well and it gets icy. I speak from experience there too!

I personally preferred wearing high top hiking boots instead of designated snow boots. They're more durable.

The answer to this is Blundstones. Perfect for a snowy NE school (more than half the kids at any of those schools are wearing them for a reason). They look nice, are easy to get on and off, traction is good. I would get these while they are on sale: https://www.blundstone.com/products/black-premium-waterproof-leather-chelsea-boots-womens-style-566

This might not actually be a need. I went to college in New England and still live here with teens. Not sure about college kids but teens are wearing Crocs, sneakers, birkenstock slippers - thru the whole winter.

Good point! They're off and around campus quite a bit but I'm not sure how much people shovel sidewalks in general (to frat houses, off campus housing, local businesses, etc)

The Dioralps apres ski has great traction and keeps the toes warm and comfy.

First year for kid at a full-time snowy school in New England and I need to buy them boots.
I was thinking that pull on boots would be best?
But most are not ranked high for traction.

Do they wear the extra gripper spikes?

Thanks!
