FCPS continues to weaken the AAP program to the greatest extent possible (including at Haycock).

And now, under Spanberger, all VA high schools are going to eliminate higher math classes, through the renewed VMPI.

Budget now for private school.

Shut up maga

NP and I really hope you bookmark this thread for when Op comes back in about 8 years to ask why her fcps kid is unable to access accelerated math programs. But go ahead and pretend that anyone who calls out what the school board is actively and openly working to dismantle in the name of equity simply has to be politically conservative. Sadly, when you are so set on refusing to see the truth, it will be too late to reverse the effects of these poor decisions.

St Joseph’s preschool is amazing.

We went to LAA Overlee with a handful of Haycock families. It’s not the closest, but it’s not terribly far and a lot easier to get to at rush hour than anything by Tyson’s. Their hours are very working parent friendly.

There are a handful of full day family day homes we toured in that area (check the VA licensing site for current list). Most focus on younger kids, but some had older kids. I also saw a Tierra Encantada opening up in new development near WFC metro which seems to have full day options. Barring that you have a few choices in FCC which shouldn’t be too far from you.

Hope this helps. Also, if you want to swim at a pool at some point with your kids, get on some wait lists now.

There is a Facebook group called Falls Church Parents and Caregivers - look around there. You’ll get much better recommendations than here

I have a four year old in the neighborhood who will also be at haycock next year. We’ve used Rodef Shalom’s early childcare center and TEA Center. I prefer Rodef, but pick up is at 5:30 and most kids leave earlier, which is also hard with my schedule. Rodef’s preschool program is great, but we used a nanny through age 3 to supplement that.

Lewinsville Montessori and Westgate Childrens Center are competitors that share part of a Fairfax County Senior Center on Great Falls St just north of Magarity Road. Their entry doors are adjacent. Each has its own fenced play area.

Both are almost 12-month programs. Each closes for Federal Holidays and a week or two at Xmas.

Lewinsville starts at 3 months old. Westgate starts later, maybe age 2 or 3.

One or the other might work if you commute towards Tysons.

Better answers are likely in the Preschool and Daycare forum.

I am about to move to Falls Church (closer to Mclean side) so my older kid can start public elementary school (Haycock) next year. Currently looking for suggestions of childcare nearby for my younger kid. I don't see many options and many of them closes at 3pm. As a working mom, this is not ideal. Looking for ideas to make this work.
