We ask to be moved and are willing to wait if necessary.

We just did this the other night. The table was next to an entrance and I got blasted with cold air before we even sat down. I wasn’t willing to eat in my coat. I asked to move. They moved us. No drama.

I have zero qualms about asking for a better seat if it's available

This happened to my teenage daughter and I. In from the west coast and don’t dress like the middle aged golfer dads here. They sat us right by the exit to the kitchen. I proved them wrong by ordering a ribeye, letteing her order filet mignon, and drinking 4 beers.

I just sit there. I notice it, and feel annoyed for a moment, but then I let it go and enjoy the food and it is forgotten.

Ditto. My DH is fussy about seating but he just asks nicely for an alternate and we've never had an issue. Usually the host just shrugs and offers something else.

If it's a really horrid seat and I made a reservation I would ask more firmly then tell them it was not suitable and we wouldn't be dining there.

Morton's in crystal city would be completely empty yet they would sit you next to the OPEN kitchen always if you didn't make a reservation. Why would we need one if the place was always empty??? The staff there were the biggest jerks I've ever seen.

Politely ask if you can be seated elsewhere. The hosts need to balance sections and waitstaff so maybe they can accommodate you but maybe they can’t. Just ask nicely.
