It is normal for anxiety to spike on SSRIs during the first 2 weeks. This is something to discuss with your provider, so they can decide if this is within the range of normal or if you should try something else.

The same thing happened to me. It made me manic, anxiety through the roof, weird thoughts. I had to seek help from a psychiatrist who put me on lithium because SSRIs can trigger mania in people with previously undiagnosed bipolar conditions or hypomania.
I slowly recovered from that but would never take an SSRI again.
"Most" people do well. It's just that some of us do not.
Google for SSRI induced mania. It's a thing.

This happened to my DH. His dr said to take some other med when starting Lexapro, Xanax maybe, I can’t remember. He refused. The 1/2 life of Lexapro isn’t short so it took a while to stabilize but he didn’t sleep for a few days.

I had problems with Lexipro and did not stay on it long. Call your prescriber and discuss what’s going on. Wishing you the best.

SSRIs are very well studied and there is a ton of data on them as they are so commonly prescribed. That said, OP, some versions are activating to some people and it sounds like this might be the case with you and Lexapro. I would call your prescriber. Sometimes the increased anxiety goes away after your body adjusts, but if it’s still significant after two weeks, you might need to adjust dosage or try a different one.

I started Lexapro 2 weeks ago and I have this strange obsessive thing I am waking up thinking about and going to sleep thinking about. I mean literally on a loop in my head hours a day. And it’s not super rational. it’s very much a what if thought. Is this normal?
