I would just tell her they don’t fit her properly and she can’t wear them. Leave it at that. It probably isn’t a matter of size, but rather the cut of the pants and her shape. Kids with flatter rear ends have this problem with a lot of pants.

At 10 even a little bit of the butt showing is inappropriate. Either take the waist in so the pants stay up or remove the pants from her wardrobe until she's bigger.

If it shows her ass then the clothing is NOT appropriate. She is 10 - old enough to learn you dress up for certain occasions and a holiday with family/friends is one of them.

Is the problem that they’re too big in the waist? Can you use a big safety pin to take up the slack or give it to her to pin before she lays down. It might look a little awkward, but it would have to be better than plumber’s crack.

You say that you let your kids wear what they like SO LONG AS IT’S NOT INAPPROPRIATE. If your daughter is not adequately covered in these pants, they are not appropriate and she can’t wear them. Even if they are very fluffy. Sorry.

DD, 10, has a lot of tracksuits. She loves her “trackies” as she calls them so much, she’s actually wearing them to Thanksgiving dinner! I let my kids wear what they would like so long as it’s fine for the weather and not inappropriate. Unfortunately, when she lies down to read, well, everything is shown. She really likes this particular brand and this is their smallest size. The pants are fluffy and she just loves it. I don’t want to embarrass her but…
