I suspect it's because we all had some negative experience with a mean girl named Beth sometime around 1985. Just me?

My neighbor Elizabeth went by Libby. Now that she’s in college, she has asked people to call her Elizabeth.

I have an Elizabeth. I love Beth and want that nn but DC opted for another in MS. I actually like Lyddy over Libby. Elizabeth is a great name that offers many options to grow with DC.

I'm an Elizabeth who goes by my full name and never had a shortened version. So I am pretty opinionated on this subject.

I don't love Libby. It sounds weak to my ear. The only real nicknames I'm ok with (but I don't use) are: Liz, Eliza, Betsy, Betty. I can not stand Lizzie, Bethany, Beth, Libby, Eli etc.

This is just my opinion though! If you love Libby, it's a perfectly fine nickname and much better than naming the child Laklyn or Berkleigh.

Elizabeth is a great name because there are SO many possible nicknames for your daughter to choose from as she gets older. It was my first pick for a girl (we had 3 boys!). I was going to do Eliza personally.

You have Elizabeth, Eliza, Beth, Liz, Lizzie, Libby, Betsy, Ellie (less traditional for an Elizabeth but still works). And probably more in forgetting. I think Libby is cute but if your daughter disagrees she has a wide range of options for when she is 13 and decides she needs to reinvent herself

I love it. It feels very fresh to me. Elizabeth has always been one of my favorite names. If I had used it, I would have tried to stick to Elizabeth. But I think Libby is adorable.

(Also, I'm sure you've gotten the lecture -- you can't always control nicknames.)

Baby #3 will be named Elizabeth. I’ve always loved Libby as a nickname, and DH is on board. Curious to get some outside feedback too. I’ve heard some people that really hate this nickname over the years.
