Yes. Confirming scores are way lower.

You are asking about the SAT confirmation score. 1510 is fine. Congrats to your kid!!! (And v smart to decide to be done.)

Yes, DS got 1510 on PSAT as a Junior, but I read your SAT score needs to be high enough to qualify as a NMS. His SAT is not as high as his PSAT, comparatively, but he's already taken it 3 times and doesn't want to re-take it. My question is whether he should re-take the SAT in order to be in the running for National Merit Scholar (and not just Finalist).

National merit is based off the PSAT taken in the junior year. Each state has their own cutoff values for scholars and commended. The values are calculated, basically the sum of 2x the verbal score plus the math score, divided by 10.

I’m sure at 1510 your son would qualify as a NM scholar.

Kid got 1510 on PSAT (so missed one question on verbal). His SAT score (superscored is 1530), not superscored in 1520. Is his SAT score high enough for him to get National Merit Scholar? What else should he do now to ensure he gets it? Just wondering if he HAS to take the SAT again (he is burnt out and doesn't want to take SAT again).

(I know it doesn't matter, blah-blah, but just want to understand the National Merit process.
