Even if there is a small chance of a negative side effect, someone has to get it. Look at negative side effects for others in your family. Thats the warning I got! Also be hyper aware of oral hygiene and make sure your fetal provider is aware of this medication.

In my reading, I saw that the jaw necrosis happens in one out of 300,000 who take it orally and usually happens after dental work such as with dentures or a tooth being pulled. It’s also more common with injected Fosomax than the oral pill and with people taking it for three years or more.

I include the above to let others know to research. I was worried about the jaw and also about the problems with the femur. After discussing with my doctor, who also has a PharmD, I decided to go ahead and take it.

I took Fosamax for about 3 months and then developed acid reflux and stopped it. I have been lifting (heavy weights--powerlifting) and got out of osteoporosis... my numbers dropped from -2.5 and -2.7 in my right/left hips to -1.5 and -1.7. I think the heavy weightlifting and taking a bone strength supplement did more for those numbers than the 3 months on Fosamax.

Yes. My father and grandmother both took Fosomax with no problems. They did not have broken bones.

Both of them ate like birds. My father was not at all good with nutrition. Both of them likely suffered from of food during the Great Depression, too. Neither lifted weights or did weight bearing work or exercise.

When I got it, I had been eating terribly and was underweight due to a digestive disorder. I took this disease as an opportunity to improve my diet, gain weight, lift heavy weights, and walk more.

I’ve been on Fosomax around three years and take it once a week. Of the three places they tested for osteoporosis, all have improved and two of them moved back to osteopenia.

The doctor said, congrats, your bones are basically two years younger.

I also supplement with calcium (BoneUp by Jarrow), keep my BMI up, and do certain exercises (including jumping).

I did a lot of research to see what else could be done to complement the medicine and am happy with the results so far.

I’ve taken fosamax for 2 months now. It can potentially have horrible side effects which scares me but I haven’t experienced them yet fortunately. It is an annoying medication to take

My mom is 82. She took fosomax for a few years in her mid 70s when diagnosed with osteopenia. She only has the barest hint of osteoporosis in one hip now, so they recently put her back on it once weekly. No side effects.

My mom is late 70s and has taken Fosamax and another one that only allows two does, and she’s finished. She started taking a D3/K2 supplement and rowing on an erg and it’s the only time she’s ever grown bone back, fwiw.

My very good friend did Forteo and saw some improvement in bone density. It's insanely expensive without insurance, and she had a little trouble getting coverage but was able to complete the 2 year treatment because she had some really bad fractures. She didn't have any side effects. She's now doing weight training and looking into other drugs.

Is anyone on any medication for Osteoporosis that could comment on their xperience?
