Bannekar will stay majority Black, about should, but will attract more diverse kids from all over the city. I still wish my kid would have gone there. Such a great school with an awesome legacy of Black excellence, smart kids and engaging teachers.

Really?! It seems so bad now. I constantly hear about fights and my friend's kids who go to MacArthur say they haven't seen the principal since the first day of school. I don't know...

Principal at McA is rarely seen. My kid says the last time she saw him was right before Halloween.

Only for middle school.

DCPS is by far the leader for elementary. High School is split.

And also the worst.

True. Meanwhile, DCPS will find clever new ways to dumb down things even more.

My kids ES went form 25% IB to 60-65% IB and 70% AA to over 50% white in the last 10 years. Truly, things chance change so fast.

I will add- I think you will see a 5-6 charter schools close and several of the single-site charters consolidate (like SJS/ Truth, Thurgood Marshall/WLA, etc.) to create larger networks or get absorbed by larger networks. This is especially true for any sing-site school that is less than 10 years old because they have a much higher occupancy cost due to when they purchased buildings. There are simply too many small schools and as money gets harder to raise these schools will need to reconsider the models. We are already seeing PCSB develop policies to make this easier.

Agree with these and will add

1) McKinley Tech will more UMC (all Banneker will still be a magnet for UMC black and brown kids, while McKinley Tech will be racially agnostic).

2) DCI, Latin and BASIS remain as appealing options

3) MacArthur becomes as appealing as Hardy is now

4) TR and CMI continue a decline and follow the path of Cap City, EL Haynes.

Hope you feel better. And yes I remember it well. My DD was dead last on a MV waiting list at #393. Unthinkable in this day and age.

I predict the strengthening of Eastern and Coolidge. ITS says good, TR and MV slowly sort themselves out. SSMA is shut down, Rocketship loses a campus.

I’m sick in bed and bored so I started reading through some old threads on this forum from around the time of the common lottery, about 10-12 years ago.

It’s amazing how much things have changed, particularly around charter elementary schools.

The top elementary language charters haven’t changed much. Yu Ying, Stokes, LAMB. MV has probably dropped a bit in popularity, DCB has risen.

But there were a large number of highly in demand English-only charters back then, spoken of with just as much demand and enthusiasm as the language schools - Two Rivers, Cap City, EL Haynes, CMI. These schools all still exist, but at least in DCUM-land, don’t have anywhere near the demand and enthusiasm as the DCI feeders. The only English only charter that was in high demand then and still is : ITS. The year before the common lottery, Two Rivers had over a thousand applications for 32 PK3 seats!! This past year - waitlist of 49 kids.

The demand seems higher now for DCPS schools, like WOTP feeders, Ross and SWS.

Any predictions for what will change in the next 10 years? What will be different in 2035?
