My son is taking a AP Precal and he’s in 9th grade

In 10th at MacArthur, my son took AP Pre Calc, AP Human Geo, and AP World History. Some took APs in 9th, but you need to make special accommodations. Generally, you can talk to the principal to figure it out

9th grade: honors bio
10th grade: honors chemistry
11th grade: honors physics, AP physics 1, or AP physics C mechanics (the last one only if taking or already taken AP calculus AB or BC); some kids do AP chem instead of physics
12th grade: (depending on what they did in 11th grade) AP physics 2, AP physics C mechanics, AP physics C E&M, AP chem, AP Bio, APES

In my experience, the math teachers at JR will lay out your child’s recommended math sequence at every parent-teacher conference.

It depends on the class. At my DS school, they can take AP Physics without taking the non AP Physics course. However, that is not allowed for AP Bio or AP Chem. For math, they take AP Pre Cal, AP Calc or AP Stat without taking a non-AP version of those courses.

I know 9th grade in dcps, kids don't take ap classes. At least not at Jackson reed. What happens in 10th grade? I heard they need to take the regular version of the class first and then the ap version, but that can't be right. Mine will not take ap humanities but would like to take a lot of ap science and math, so what is the expected path for this? My high school had 1 ap class, so I don't know how ap classes work.
