Don't most keep them for 7 years for tax purposes?? Seems sketchy.

Tell that to our IT who wiped our VPs and above work accounts last week - reputable employer here in DC

Can you have someone call them pretending they are trying to get a reference for another job, and ask if you are "eligible for rehire"?

Were you terminated for cause? Or were you given some sort of excuse like your position was being eliminated? That is more like a layoff, and people “boomerang” at my huge company all the time.

Don’t do this. It’s like tipping them off.

How big is your company? If it’s Fortune 500, they MAY have records that go back that far. I bet most companies won’t be able to tell.

Leave it off your resume and see if they even figure it out. I would apply if you’re qualified.

Depending on company records, you may have a note on your file that says something like "do not hire" or "unregetted attrition." (I came across that second phrase on some website.)

If everyone thought he was a jerk just say "I used to work here and loved the company! I worked for Brian and unfortunately ...." and they'll go "Ugh, well he's gone now, so you don't have to worry about him!"

Given that he was let go, may not be a total 0% chance. If you know anyone that still works there, reach out.

Do you know still know anyone there that you can talk to? Maybe they can put in a positive word with HR.

Apply and see if you get a call for an interview (along with reaching out to anyone you know who still works there) - honestly, it's so hard to get an interview now figure that all out once/if you get contacted.

So about 15 years ago I was terminated by my boss who is a SUPREME jerk. He was just horrible and has since been let go from that company finally.

The company was great just my boss was awful.

There’s another position open that i qualify for and am interested in.

What are my chances?
