Is it true that students have to miss math and English class for Strings at the Alexandria Catholic k-8? Really? Why not do it before or after school? Or better yet, during MUSIC class?

There are schools that publish their standardized test scores on their websitesMy experience is that the two track schools are academically more rigorous because they have more resources, more tuition and can offer more differentiation, etc. check out St Mark, OLGC and St Agnes, all of their scores are up . Also better for kids since with more kids they can hopefully fall into a friend group

Please stay away from Queen of Apostles. The middle school is a disaster - completely forgotten. The math program is the only thing that it had going for it. English was a glorified political indoctrination class and there was no literature to speak of.

It suffers from a weak principal who does not put the school's interest first and a terrible parish priest. He started getting involve with the school a few years ago and that has been the beginning of the decline.

My kid graduated last year, but we have friends still there and it is declining. We ended up leaving the parish completely once my kid graduated and joining another parish.

Funny how there are so many “walkers” at st Mary’s during half days. Does half the student body suddenly live within a 2 mile radius of get school?

Off topic, PP! But I’ll bite since you are being such a busy body:

Maybe the middle schoolers are walking to King Street for lunch? Walking seems more environmentally friendly than having their parents drive to get them in the carpool line and drop them off 4 blocks away, no?

Not allowed. To be a walker, you must live or work within a certain radius of the school. You can’t be a walker just bc you want to “go to lunch.”

Which demonstrates how stupid the policy is. The school has no business telling you HOW you get to school or what you do after school is out. The school is the “busy body,” not me.

And sorry if you live nearby and don’t like parents parking on your precious street. Boo hoo - it’s a public street. If you don’t like it, move.

The problem is that no one knows. The schools don’t publish their school-wide standardized test scores.

The only thing I would say is that some Catholic middle schools are bigger than others. If it’s a two track middle vs one track school, it’ll be 20-25 students versus 40-45 per class.

This is the correct answer.

Which are the top Catholic schools in the middle grades in FXCO and/or NoVA. I hear high teacher turnover is the norm in almost all the schools.
