It makes me sick the pressure that the parents put on Kids. Where do you think this stress comes from? If you would simply balance their lives and make them realize college admissions is not the most important thing in life, most of our children would not have the mental health issues they do in high school. My freshman is already talking about how scared she is of junior year because she’s heard of how stressful it is, and I have repeatedly said “you make it as stressful as you choose “… hopefully some other parents on here will follow suit. Your child is more than a test score, GPA, or a reflection of a college they get into.

My one big regret is I wish she got the SAT out of the way before junior year since she was done with the necessary math then.

And to the PP who said testing isn’t really required, maybe it’s not expected if you’re coming from some rural area and/or applying to a non competitive school.
If you’re in the DMV where we have some of the best public and private schools in the country , it’s definitely expected. If your child doesn’t submit their scores at this point; admission officers will automatically assume they are low, and it will have a negative effect on acceptances.

Couldn't disagree more. Not submitting test scores does not mean admissions assumes they are low. Regardless, I have one kid in a very competitive college who did not submit test scores and GPA was not 4.0+ w just a couple of APs. The stress does not have to be this high but it is what the families make it to be. Senior year will turn it up a notch w/ application deadlines, peer competition of ED, EA and RD
Good luck all and all I can say to families is, please please be kind and make sure you manage your expectations well. There is a college for anyone who wants to go..it just may not be what you envision

DC is stressed! Coming off the fall play, with tech/dress rehearsals until 7 or 8 pm for two weeks straight and getting a bit behind because of it, and right into essays and tests all happening before Thanksgiving break. It’s a lot, and that’s not even to do with college stuff — DC was very thankfully done with those tests after the August SAT.

High school is stressful, and junior year really turns it up a notch. They will get through this, though!

They shouldn't be stressed at all. Have them regroup and focus on things that matter, rather than that stuff. Only takes a few hours prep and test time for each one those, and many times they are not even required to get accepted to a university.
