Likely not top-tier med school admissions, or they'd say. Write and ask for the data.

My NMF pre-med kid wanted an SLAC for undergrad, so didn't consider UA. It's a big, ra ra football school with a very small cohort of top students. You should visit and see how your kid feels about it.

I don't see any non-white kids in the pre-med cohort picture

My niece is Indian (dark), was pre-med at Alabama (loved it!). She is now at Emory for med school.

Alabama's overall med school acceptance rate is 57% (most attending in state Alabama med schools) which is above the 46% national average, but far below 80%+ for top schools.

You are absolutely not guaranteed admission at UAB, which is an incredible med school. Need to apply and be accepted.

True, they will indicate you are not on track for med admission early on and will not support your application. Lots of schools do this - I know for certain Swarthmore and Chicago do this.

If you are pre-med and are not supported, it is easy to get credentials (classes, labs, clinical) and then have money to do a post-bac, which is a common path. Post bacs are expensive, and having spent very little on undergrad is helpful.

UA student body is more than 70% white, nearly twice the US college average.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

There is no compromise on education going to Alabama. Same orgo, bio, calc everyone takes and some seriously credentialed professors for higher level classes.

Yes! DS is pre-med there now and their median MCAT is VERY high. Kids are getting into amazing schools. It is easy to get lab jobs (needed for med apps) and clinical work at the hospital on campus. Incredibly supportive pre-med group. We have DS’s full college fund to spend on med school. I don’t understand why people wouldn’t do this. By all means visit!!
