Fundraising is a large part of the CEO's responsibility at a small nonprofit. What is stopping you from optimizing your fundraising program to bring in more money to increase salaries? Not from grants that have a lot of strings attached. Focus on your mid level and direct response programs.

What do you make?

If the Board won't pay you more, then you know your value to them. If you disagree, you can go elsewhere, but keep the risks of a new job not working out in mind.

I should clarify, to change, I'm looking at jobs for which I am qualified that pay at least $50k more than I currently make. These are c-suite positions at larger nonprofits than the one where I currently work. I would not leave for what I consider the next step in my current pay.

Yes, but they don't seem to grasp the current job market. They seem to think many of our staff would not be able to find comparable salaries at other orgs, which is completely incorrect. I'm at least $15k underpaid for our budget, but that does not matter to them.

I mean in corporate 15k is negligible when comparing salaries, especially at the exec levels. I thought you were going to say you were off by 50k at least. So if they split the difference and gave you a 7.5k bump you’d be happy, you’d stay?? Or is there something else in the mix of consideration here?

I'm not sure you have any understanding of a well-run nonprofit, but thanks for the troll today.

I've been at my job for 11 years now (multiple promotions), and been in charge of the small nonprofit for the last four. I enjoy the work, but I'm underpaid, have minimal mentorship, and would like to gain some new experience. Am I crazy for considering a move to a larger company? I know I could not step into a CEO type role at a larger org, but a C-suite role in a larger company would likely offer higher pay and the opportunity to learn something new. If I want to make a move, how do I make connections to find roles? I've applied off and on for ones I find online, but I know I need to do a better job of networking myself into a new role. Alternatively, should I stay here and try to grow the company? I'm in my 40s, so neither too old nor too young.
