Shame on FCPS

I have been a homebound teacher for years and it makes me so sad that they are pushing homebound kids to Edmentum instead of pairing them with a teacher. I was so proud to be part of a system that didn't just abandon students going through real struggles. Make your voice heard and complain loudly. If Edmentum is not working for your child, be clear with the out-of-school support office that you want a homebound teacher, as Edmentum is not meeting your child's needs. I have seen one or two gen-ed students pop up in the system this school year, so I know it must be possible. Best of luck to your kiddo.

Perhaps you could contact the school and ask them instead of relying on the people here.

That is not correct. The only students at our school who have been offered the math are also identified for AAP services (either subject specific or parttime).

Someone needs to do an investigation into this contract. There’s no evidence that putting kids in front of screens is going to increase their achievement, knowledge or thinking abilities.

Follow the money. Someone is getting a kickback from Edmentum.

Kids have been identified in two ways: they’re struggling in reading OR they are already identified as students receiving AAP services (subject specific and part-part-time) Those kids can access the math program as a way to boost early algebra.

This is completely voluntary and to done at home. Students will/have been taking a diagnostic test at school by Friday this week. Schools are in the process of setting up procedures for how laptops can go home for those that qualified for Exact Path.

There’s nothing for parents to do right now. Just wait for the next communication. Our school has not sent anything to parents. We will take care of this in December.

Really? They want to get more kid into A1H as 6th graders by prepping with a computer program? How about we just find a way to identify the kids are ready on that path naturally and support those kids across the county instead of trying to boost edge cases into further acceleration that might not be a good fit?

My child came home with a letter saying he is being given an exact path account for math. He is confused as he says not all children got the letter. I’ve searched my email to see if we received any notice about what this program is but I can’t find anything. Is anyone familiar with this? If you receive it does it mean your child is struggling in the subject? Or is it just another tool like ST math?
