I had one that included a blog of quasi-professional advise and thoughts. Our legal counsel advised me to take it down. In the event of something happening at our company, if there was a gap between what I was advising and what we were practicing, it could open us/me up to liability. This probably isn't true for most personal sites, but it's something to consider.

Yes I have one. Similar to above, it’s a more narrative version of my resume, digs into my niche area more, and links to portfolio type stuff.

I don’t expect organic traffic on it, but it works well as “social proof” of authority in my field when asked.

Yes I have a personal site focusing on my career development. I love it because I own it and control my brand and get to market my skills for future opportunities. I also monitor site visits. It's always interesting to see when managers search me after interviews. Lol

My website is for my resume, talks I've given, articles I've written. It exists because people were asking me for this. I'm able to personalize it a lot more than I can with my LinkedIn profile.

A new colleague sent a link to her "lifestyle" blog and it was definitely in the realm of clueless, un-self-aware, navel gazing, and not professional.

A simple professional page is fine. Are people veering away from Linked In then? Even those who don't post- just have the same info you listed in the OP (except hobbies--who. cares.)

I am seeing more and more of these from people that I know and they are trivially easy to set up. Historically, it was something I only really saw from people in academia. They will usually include a picture, their biography and stuff like their hobbies, interests, somewhere to contact them and a blog, if they have time. The URL will typically just be their name.

If you see this from a project manager or policy analyst type, does this sort of mark them as a self-important dbag?
