Would you say the same thing about getting new flooring installed during the winter?

Yes, but that’s a shorter project so it wouldn’t bother me much.

We put down hardwood on the main floor in the spring and went without A/C for the dust but it was only a week. Then we stayed in a hotel for four nights to let the smell of the stain fade.

why not?

When you're living without a kitchen it's very handy to be able to grill and sit outside to eat. We basically did that every night for months.

We had walls open during winter and it's the only time we've ever gotten (or at least found) mice in the house.

As someone mentioned, wood flooring needs to sit at your normal indoor temp and humidity for a while before installation.

Most flooring is best done during temperate weather. Doing it during humid weather or winter is asking for trouble.

We've done renovations in summer and winter.
Feeding kids during a summer kitchen renovation was challenging.

We did a major remodel in the winter and should've moved out but didn't realize this until it was too late. Clearing the sidewalk/driveway and stairs in the early morning for the contractors was a lot of work but it was an especially snowy winter so YMMV.

WE have done renovations in the summer and winter.

Summer Pros: More daylight, opportunity to grill and spend time outdoors away from house.
Cons: House may get hot with open doors/HVAC dust. More popular time to renovate so may encounter contractor delays.

Winter Pros: Once you get past the holidays, contractors are less busy.
Cons: House may get cold with open doors/HVAC dust. Not as much opportunity to be outside and away from renovation.

We did our kitchen that one winter where there were multiple snow storms and an obscene amount of snow days off school. Contractor lived an hour away so didn't make it in a few times. I have pictures of my kids laying through the wall that was removed down to the studs. It was less than ideal. However, in the end it was all fine and I would rather have my kitchen six months earlier than not.

I like it because the contractors are less busy - easier to get a project done fast
