DC was similar. Took 5 practice tests over the course of a few months. The day after the test (not same-day), reviewed incorrect answers. Some Khan academy, too. The questions, and solutions, became more and more familiar.

Got math up about 130 points (or thereabouts, can't remember exactly). A lot of resistance at the start, but by the end seemed to feel that the practice was very rewarding. And frankly improved math skills quite a bit in the process.

Good point. Also math is the second part, make sure they aren’t just running out of steam. (This might especially be an issue if they have extra time.)

What math class is the kid in? If the junior is in precalculus, then maybe all they need is to keep reviewing and reinforcing Algebra 1&2 and geometry to get more solid.

PP. I want to clarify that OP did not indicate the gender of their child. The second poster mentioned a DD.

That was me in high school. I couldn't fix it with a Kaplan SAT prep book.

About 10 years after that, I was able to fix my GMAT math and get it to a comparable level with my high verbal score after about three months of self-study and about 10 real ETS practice tests. GMAT math is highly comparable to most of SAT math.

I did two things differently.

1) I categorized all my mistakes explicitly and studied the material I didn't know harder.

2) I memorized a lot of formulas.

Of course, I was an adult and took things way more seriously. But compared to the GMAT math I got in my senior year of college, I went from a %ile in the 80s to a %ile in the high 90s.

As a parent, you can help by doing the pattern analysis. That is time consuming and boring. It is like grading with the added twist that you are evaluating why the student got it wrong.

Khan Academy is probably pretty good. ETS is now hoarding and not sharing very much official digital test material compared to olden times. That's a problem. Khan Academy also lost their special integrated relationship with ETS/College Board. But it's free and credibly related.

Your daughter is probably missing some grade-level math mastery. You could subscribe to IXL.com and if she does the math diagnostics there, it may reveal to you what she knows and doesn't know. But she will have to do a lot of units for a comprehensive look. I found that the Mathnasium franchise math intake assessment for my kid (given by the center director) matched very well with the IXL.com parent diagnostic. This would be more in the $30 to $150 realm depending on how long you subscribe for.

Some on this board recommend 1600.io. I have no personal experience but am interested in it.

Good luck to your child!

I believe the book has a section on the strategic use of DESMOS.

Depends where you are located for posters to recommend test prep service. Search this board some have been mentioned and a couple to avoid but those recommendations might be outdated

This was the experience with my DD as well. 99% verbal and average math. We paid a test prep company and it helped somewhat. But math score still never made it to the level of verbal score.

My junior got a 720V, 590M. What do you suggest to get that math score up? Is Khan academy still the way to go? I don’t think we can do a tutor or course. Thanks!
