Yes, they can and do reduce- for many other reasons.
Scholarships are renewed every year and in year 2 they can be reduced and eliminated for play on the field and for things like roster changes. Lacrosse is going through it right now with those schools opting in to the House settlement and rosters being reduced to 48. Lots of students getting cut.
