Fewer. FFS.

** for athletic “play” reasons.
Yes, they can and do reduce- for many other reasons.

Scholarships are renewed every year and in year 2 they can be reduced and eliminated for play on the field and for things like roster changes. Lacrosse is going through it right now with those schools opting in to the House settlement and rosters being reduced to 48. Lots of students getting cut.

PP here- Correct. I thought that was a given, but I guess some don't know. Once you have the scholarship, it is set for a $ and length of time specified in your offer, many times yearly, it cannot be reduced for play during the duration of that "contract".

At least they got the stars and got a ranking that’s hard enough to do in and of itself no matter what the ranking is!

I doubt they care. Any 2026 who was a five star at any time is by now committed to a top college and has had a zillion accolades along the way. I'm sure they are focused on their senior year of HS and then college; recruiting stars and similar rankings are in the rear view mirror at this point.

I saw there were some committment changes with with the 2026 boys all over the country. Is that scholarship reasons to get more money?

The Star rankings are just one small piece of the puzzle when it comes to evaluating players. While some may mention it or use it for recruiting purposes, in the grand scheme of things, it holds little significance. Achieving a spot in the top 100 is an impressive feat regardless of the star rating.

Not the first time. Some guys get better, some get worse or out of shape. Colleges provide some feedback to IL for the star ratings along with the IL guys looking at film submissions and event play. Lots of mistakes are made in college recruiting, but there are tons of mistakes made in professional sports drafts too. In college, it's only a year mistake as the contracts renew after a year.
