i HATE putting lights on, so prelit, for me, all the way. we have had good luck with ours. i'm on my second prelit tree. the first one was lost in a flood. the second one is going on its 7th year with no light failure, and this is a 100 dollar demo tree from walmart!

Unless you are super priviledged and rich and don't care about the environment, then have at it.

So you don't have to put lights on the damn thing.

If it's that much trouble to you, then skip the tree entirely Mr. Grinch.

Are you a Costco member? I saw some really nice ones this week (after seeing one that I didn't think was that great a few weeks ago).

Agree with not buying prelit. They fail within a few years and you either have to replace the tree (or clip off the old lights and string on new ones.)
Putting on lights is not that big a deal - just wrap them on a spool or piece of cardboard when you take them down, and it will be a 15 min chore each time.

We’ve had the Costco one for 8 years, still going strong. I love it.

Lights fail in a few years regardless of if it's an expensive tree or not, so don't spend a fortune. I bought a really expensive Balsam Hill one and regretted it. Now I have a cheaper one from Target.

If you buy an expensive one, read up on complaints.

My aunt has beautiful artificial trees so I've read reviews.

People complain a lot about warranty issues and obsolescence with the really fancy ones.

Some people recommend looking for giveaways of trees with a light problem and making a Frankentree or getting repair parts from them.

Make sure you have the stomach and budget for this kind of tree.

Our Balsam Hill tree is beautiful but I would not buy pre-lit. We had issues with the lights—under warranty, so they replaced it, but I have a feeling it won’t be long before it happens again. Otherwise it is a high quality tree that looks very real.
