Several years ago, I knew a female student who received a full scholarship to Knox College. Attended for one year, then transferred due to boredom/small size/location.

Galesburg is where many Amtrak workers live.


I will add that the student was not a member of any athletic team while at Knox College. That may make a difference.

Congrats on a great offer from Knox and best of luck to your DC as they decide! My DC is similarly considering small, less-known liberal arts colleges that offer generous merit, so I can relate. Knox seems like a great school.

I applied to Knox as one of my safety schools back in the 90s (and I was coming from NYC). Somehow I got hold a big, glossy brochure that kind of sold me on the place. I ended up applying elsewhere ED and got in, so it was moot, but I remember thinking Knox was a nice school that seemed to have a lot to offer considering its size.

Knox College is one of the Colleges That Change Lives.

It's three or four blocks from downtown Galesburg with cafes, theaters, bookstore, restaurants, etc.

Like others have said, it's better known in Illinois. Carl Sandburg is from Galesburg.

Knox is a great school with an excellent campus vibe. However, Galesburg has seen better days. What are they wanting to study. Knox has a good reputation in Midwest. Campus hosted one of the original Lincoln Douglas Debates.

I consider myself pretty smart about these things (huge fan of Grinnell) but had never heard of it. Seems like an interesting place - thank you for sharing. Tiny school truly in the middle of nowhere, so fit is really key. Most important, make sure DC likes the culture of the specific team they are being recruited for. Given the location, I'm assuming most road games are a long trek, so they will be spending a lot of time with teammates.

Of course it doesn't get talked about here because we'll, it's in IL. It's a small (~1000 students) private liberal arts college. You'll want to visit in-person to see if you like the place.
