We live near Oakton and Chantilly and have heard of a couple neighbor boys who played varsity. I think both were tall and/or decently athletic, but not a lot of prior experience with volleyball specifically. Is this an easier sport to make than most of the other ones for boys, assuming height and some athletic ability? Do the coaches pick teams based on skills/experience, or more on potential? I wonder how many boys are coming in having played a lot of volleyball vs. coming from other sports?
The 2024-2025 school year was the inaugural year for boy's volleyball in fairfax county public high schools.
The second season of boys high school volleyball just ended.
There is only a varsity team for boy's no JV or freshman teams.
Oakton is an extremely competitive team and some very good players ride the bench all season.
Chantilly is easier to get on the team and get play time.
The general rule of thumb is that wealthier schools tend to have more competitive voilleyball teams
I don't know why but volleyball is a very expensive sport.
