S/O how do adults (no kids) like London in colder weather/late winter? Thinking museums, Harry Potter for a few days.

Hated it, overrun with illegals and pickpockets.

I lived in London for some years. It's big and sprawling and overly gentrified side by side with council housing now dominated by immigrants. There are great museums and no shortage of things to do. It's very expensive although you can mitigate costs by being careful. You can go and enjoy the big city buzz and love London, you can go and find it too big and too much of the same big cityism of any major big city with seemingly identical people and shopping and restaurants and gentrification.

I love London and think with all the museums, parks, restaurants, boat tours, playgrounds are great for kids and adults too. August can be hot or could not be. Just be sure to pick a hotel with air conditioning and pay attention to the weather. Might also run into rain. I love Battery Park area with all the shopping and restaurants and outside areas to walk around and sit and play. I think it's a great idea. Plus there are plenty of options for accommodations, whether hotels or apartments.

I love London and I just took my 6 year old. London is great for kids because a lot of the major attractions have a kid factor to them. Hampton Court Palace has an excellent playground, Hyde Park has excellent playgrounds, Kew Gardens has an excellent kids area, lots of places have kid friendly audio guides. There's excellent children's theater (look at the images from the new Paddington show). My kid enjoyed riding around on the trains and taking an Uberboat as well.

August can be a mix on the weather, it just depends.

We took our 7 year old to London for a week last summer (June) and loved it. We'd been previously more than once, so we catered more to a 7 year old's interests.

Our kid also loves NYC though, and history, etc. We did some very kid focused things--there's a really great playground right under the London Eye (even for bigger kids), so we stopped there for an hour one day, also did the playground in St. James park on the way through. We took a day trip to Brighton and rented bikes and did the cliffside path (got ice cream at our turn around spot).

Leave the 9 year old with the grandparents and enjoy yourselves.

We just got back from London a couple of weeks ago. I have finally decided, after multiple trips, that I'm just not a huge fan of it.

I love big cities -- NY, Paris, Berlin, come right to mind. Even Rome. But I don't love London. Can't even really articulate why, though.

+1. My parents were in London a few Augusts ago. It was hot but not even “heatwave hot” and they said the British Museum was very uncomfortably warm.

Love London but definitely not as much as Tokyo. Probably on par with Paris but more than New York. I have friends that live in London and I do a solo trip there probably once a year.

I’d also suggest Dublin. Esp for just a week.

It may be, but it may not. It could easily be rainy and mild. It’s a roll of the dice with the weather.

We are thinking about where to travel with our 9 year old next August for 1 week, somewhere not too hot to escape the heat in DC. We usually like city trips better and enjoyed past trips to Tokyo, Paris, and New York. We like exploring neighborhoods, shopping, having good food, and visiting museums. Has visiting London been as enjoyable as other big cities? Any other suggestions for cities to visit? Thanks so much in advance.
