If he is waking up as it is happening, he is probably close to waking up before it happens and being able to go to the bathroom.

You can reassure him that this happens to some kids, he is not the only one. He will outgrow it and that it doesn't bother you. You can have him ask the doctor about it at his annual checkup or you can ask for him if it is happening then.

Has he been tested for a UTI? If he's a deep sleeper, he may be just in a half awake half asleep state, so it really is an accident. Unless he's showing signs of not being able to hold it during the day I wouldn't personally be worried. But it couldn't hurt to let you pediatrician know if you're concerned.

Does he have a history of constipation?

I’d say he’s dry maybe 60% of the time right now. But wakes up with a wet pull-up roughly 3~ days a week now, so we’re not quite ready to fully make the switch to underwear just yet at nighttime.

His brother has actually been dry at night for years now, but more urgently has the ‘gotta go’ dash to the bathroom during the daytime!

So 6 y/o DS2 has been increasingly having an issue where first thing in the morning, the instant he wakes up, he has an accident in his night pull-up.

He’s not the sort of kid to laze about and pee just because he can (he only wears pull-ups at night, as he still has accidents while asleep). During the daytime, he has zero problem with holding it, hasn’t had an accident in years.

But this has more or less become a daily thing now, and he’s been tearfully telling us that he doesn’t mean to and feels like he ‘can’t hold it’ when this happens.

Would you schedule a Dr appointment for this?
