You’re right, but at least your husband had a kind impulse.

I’ve brought cans in for neighbors to help out (like when the woman across the street had a new baby) but would never take them out unless the neighbor asked me to. What if they were still gathering up the trash for the night and then planned to take it out later?

OP, you should bake cookies, bring it to the neighbor, apologize for your husband's action, and introduce yourself as a new neighbor.

I have lived in the same place for over 15 years and don't know my neighbors and even I think that was nice of them. YOU are weird.

OP here
Exactly!

I wonder why people like you need to crowdsource since you are already so confident about your take on the situation. Go handle your husband however you want, lady. Why do you need us?

I personally would have appreciated your husband's gesture and think you are the weird one.

Not ok. Sometimes when I am traveling, I don't bring my trash out because I'm not there. Make sure you bring them back up if the neighbors don't.

When I bought my house, my sweet, elderly neighbor that I hadn’t met yet took my trash to the curb for 2 weeks. I saw him outside one day and thanked him and he said he wasn’t sure if I knew when trash day was and he dint want me to miss pick up. I appreciated it and it was a reason for us to get introduced. Little things like helping each other with trash occasionally make the bigger things like fixing a fence or splitting the cost of taking down a tree much easier.

If you assume good intentions, and the neigbors assume good intentions, then what your husband did was neighborly, not weird. And you should all assume good intentions unless there's reason to think otherwise.

We don't know them well, we just bought our house a few months ago.

I told my husband that was weird and he shouldn't have done it. You never know, maybe there was a specific reason why the neighbor didn't want their trash picked up today.

What do you think?

I think it was neughborly...good job dh!
