Better to contact another high schooler who has played the sport and get your info that way.

Show up and tryouts and outwork everyone. Work hard on skills the summer before freshman year. Good luck!

If you have never played this sport, why do you think you would make the HS team? Is this a sport that most kids wouldn't have played before HS? Is this a no cut team that you are asking about? Have you done any research before reaching out to the coach?

Good point, that should have been a bit more obvious.

If a potential player is trying to get ready for a season the coach would hopefully have some prepared response based on timing of sports season, etc.

Wise tip to the possible student-athlete "Ask with respect". Also, you should probably know how to prepare, ask the coach for feedback on what you are already doing. If you emailed them make sure your email is written properly with real sentences, proper punctuation, etc.

No coach you met with told you to get lost, so you're paraphrasing is being more than a bit melodramatic.

Is this a public school or a private? If public, like the person wrote above then this is someone doing a part-time job on top of a full-time job.

Second, at the HS level coaches really have no requirement to communicate with parents. Depending on what you are asking them, which you haven't stated, they might not be willing nor answer at all.

Third, if you are asking something that should be coming from the student-athlete then you are also very unlikely to get a response.

Because a coach is a PT position that earns a couple of thousand a season, and not a FT person. Most are teachers, busy with too many students and paperwork and meetings and IEPs and 504s and other admin meetingsas well as emails from parents about their students. And since most of those trying out for their sport have been playing the sport on a club team for years, they do not have time for you.
