This is why I will not go to Bora Bora. I'd rather take the flight-to-the-other-side-of-the-world money and put it into the best possible experience in the Caribbean (or maybe, one day, FL's Little Palm Island). But I hate flying, so to OP and everyone else YMMV.

St Regis - probably best overall but desperately needs a renovation.
Conrad - not best views and not on good coral. Food isn’t as good as the StR
Westin - brand new, probably best hard product currently but not a real luxury resort
Four Seasons - hard product starting to age and significant issues with termites

If you are set on a beachy, tropical vacation like this I’d consider South Caicos.

You haven’t been there, but seem to have a lot to say…

Thanks all! We decided on Greece. My husband wants to do some sightseeing so I think he’d get restless in bora bora.

I'd do Greece. You can split your time seeing sites and activities with relaxing on a beach.

I have not been to Greece. It is certainly more accessible.

Have you considered the Seychelles?

Probably the same distance flying as Bora Bora.

You might want to factor in travel time. If you were to fly directly to Greece from DC, it’s 9.5 hours. There is no direct flight to Bora Bora. The trip would be 17-24 hours.

I’ve been to both and each has its charm.

If you like relaxing with a beautiful views in your private bungalow and swimming/snorkling, Bora Bora is the place. Huahine has black pearl farm and shark feeding activities. Island shuts down at dark.

Greece has islands, history, beautiful beaches, scenery and the longest gorge on Crete.

Comes down to preference.

What time of year and how long do you have?

Greece has all of the culture and history along with beach if you want it, and Bora Bora is romance in overwater bungalows.

Which one do you want? This is really a question of what you would prefer.

Husband and I are planning a 10 year anniversary trip solo without the kids - looking for something special. Thoughts between these two options?
