Try to find who the "coach" is (director, etc.) don't be pushy.

Which school has an arts scholarship?

SJC has fine arts, band, strings, choir and theater scholarships. The school is known for its athletic programs but its arts programs are fantastic, too!

When DC was applying for 9th a couple years ago, some schools specifically asked for arts-related supplements (images, videos) for kids who wanted to share visual or performing arts talents.

I know it's extremely competitive everywhere and schools look for kids who have hooks and are able to stand out in some way. Athletic kids usually have high light videos that they can share with coaches to help them get in, but what if a child is very talented in another area? Can they submit an art portfolio or a video of a musical performance, for example to the admissions office without it looking awkward? Would such material be taken into account in the decision making process?

Well, you could send such a thing to the Admissions people. But let me suggest an alternative approach.

On campus, there are people who care about the Art and musical talent of students more than the Admissions people (usually) do.

If these people champion your child's application it could have weight with the Admissions people.

This is exactly what happens with the athletes. The Admissions people don't assess athletic ability. The coaches and athletic director do and they prioritize what they need and submit that list to the Admissions people.

Sure, you an always send things. I would keep it to one email (and probably one item within the email) and make sure it's truly noteworthy (i.e don't send random art work).

When my kid applied to high school 3 years ago she received a significant award in early February and we emailed a copy of the award to the admissions assistant at each school and asked if it could be added to the kid's file. They each wrote back "congratulations!, we'll certainly add it." She was admitted to two Big3 schools and Potomac.
