Not sure about US but in MS some teachers allow retakes for grades lower than C but they can only bring the grade up to a C max (even if they get an A on the retake). So basically you get a second chance to not fail.

Walk isn’t too hard and takes my DD 10 min. Though she says from school to the metro is a lot of uphill.

With the new underground tunnel they should just take that and come up on the eastern side of the pike—then they don’t have to cross it at all.

This. And I would add that there are never bumps to round up grades at the end of the semester. My DD missed getting an A by a tenth of a point in one class. Teacher ignored email from DD asking if she could do extra work.

Yep. Can confirm this.

DD was able to make corrections for partial credit bump in test grades but I don’t think she ever did a full retake—I’d be very surprised if a teacher in upper school allowed that. Maybe MS? I also don’t think there’s a universal grading policy since some teachers were much stricter than others about late assignments etc.

Metro to school walk is under ten minutes and there’s a shuttle bus provided by school as well. School can give you the times of the shuttle and details about how that works. Very doable.

Depends on the class, teacher, and grade she got.

DD has been allowed make corrections to tests for more points, not sure I would call it a retake. And she has never been able to get enough points to make it an A or B. Just not as low a percentage. It’s definitely teacher specific. She’ll only know she has the option if she goes to see her teacher privately to discuss the exam and what happened.

Not at SR, but DC’s freshman year science teacher allowed them to do test corrections to earn partial points back, but other teachers did not do that. Does SR maybe leave it up to each teacher?

OP, you could ask the school to clarify the policy.

I have two questions if someone doesn’t mind answering:

1) how long a walk is the upper school campus from the metro?

2) I heard that students are allowed to retake tests and big assignments that they get lower than a 79% on. It’s not clear to me if that is middle school only or if the policy extends to upper school. Can anyone tell me? Thanks

Hi,
The walk is super easy, with lots of kids doing it. About seven-ten minutes if you DON'T hustle. There is a shuttle bus too. My child is able to retake many tests and quizzes but not sure if it is a uniform policy. So far, freshman year has been really good; just came away from very helpful conferences.
