Best way to figure this out (besides asking or googling bc a lot of admissions office post this info in blogs, interviews etc) is to look at what questions they add on the common app.

If I remember correctly Yale asks about grandparents. So if they ask, they must care.

IMO sibling worth more than grandparent unless grandparent big donor.

Penn considers applicants whose parents who attended grad schools there legacies.

If the grandparents gave a building, then, yes. It didn't help us because no one had given us big bucks.

Cornell alumni parents and grandparents from all parts of the university are counted as legacy -- but Cornell has said publicly that legacy only helps in the ED round.

Penn considers a kid legacy of grandparents attended. I've heard that Princeton gives preference to siblings. Not what you are asking, but Georgetown considers a student legacy if their parent went to Georgetown law.

I think Princeton gives a tip to siblings of current students. I know a lot of siblings there.
